How to Prepare Your Home Before a Renovation Starts

17 July 2026

The days before a renovation starts can feel like a lot, so we like to help our clients get everything set up nice and calmly beforehand. Here are a few simple things that make the first week go smoothly.

Clear the space early. Moving furniture, ornaments and anything precious out of the work area a few days ahead gives everyone a relaxed start rather than a last-minute scramble.

Set up a temporary kitchen if needed. A kettle, microwave and a few essentials in another room make a kitchen renovation much easier to live with day to day.

Let your neighbours know. A friendly heads-up about start dates and working hours goes a long way - we're always happy to help with this too.

Set up a cosy spot for pets and little ones. A quieter room away from the work, or a fun day at a friend's house on the noisier days, keeps everyone relaxed.

Ask us anything. Truly, every question is welcome - we'd always love for you to feel completely at ease before day one.

Once the first few days settle into a rhythm, most of our clients tell us it felt far easier than they'd expected - that's exactly what we aim for.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to move out during a renovation?

Most of our clients stay in their homes throughout, even for larger projects - we schedule the work to keep at least part of the house comfortable and usable at all times.

How much notice do you need before starting?

We'll agree a start date together well in advance at the quoting stage, giving you plenty of time to prepare at a relaxed pace.
